The Center for Excellence in Polling recently surveyed a nationwide sample of likely voters on their attitudes toward election integrity policies. Results show that voters, regardless of political affiliation, overwhelmingly want policies in place that protect the integrity of elections—the bedrock of our system of government—through clean voter rolls, keeping outside interest groups from influencing election administration, and a specialized unit of investigators focused on election crimes.

77%

support creating a special unit that investigates election law violations.1

76%

support requiring their state’s election agencies to issue an annual report to the state legislature detailing their voter roll maintenance activities.

73%

support requiring their state to conduct a comprehensive audit of the voter rolls at least twice per year.

72%

support requiring a voter’s completed absentee ballot to be returned only by the voter, a caregiver, or a family member, limiting the possibility of fraud through ballot harvesting.

61%

oppose allowing elections offices to accept funding from private individuals and special interest groups.

The Bottom Line

Voters of all political persuasions prefer policies that keep elections strong and free from outside influence. Policymakers have an opportunity to pass meaningful reforms to election laws—reforms that garner broad, bipartisan support among voters.

1 Support and oppose numbers throughout are obtained by combining “strongly support/oppose” and “somewhat support/oppose” responses.
