The Center for Excellence in Polling recently surveyed likely Minnesota voters on their opinions about welfare, unemployment benefits, and election issues.

The results indicate broad support of measures that would ensure welfare program integrity and preserve election integrity in the state.

A majority of Republicans (82%), and more than half of Democrats (68%) and Independents (64%), support requiring the state to verify food stamp applicants’ financial assets, such as expensive homes and cars, to make sure they are truly eligible for benefits.

Minnesota voters favor measures that will protect the unemployment program from fraud and abuse. A majority of voters, including more than three-quarters of Democrats (76%), support requiring the state to verify an individual’s identity prior to approving their application for unemployment benefits.

Survey results also support measures that will bring greater transparency and security to elections. The majority of likely voters—more Democrats (83%) than Republicans (75%) and Independents (74%)—overwhelmingly oppose allowing government offices that oversee elections to accept funding for their operations from private individuals and special interest groups (78%). Only 7% of Minnesotans support allowing government offices that oversee elections to accept private funding.
