The Center for Excellence in Polling recently surveyed likely Colorado voters on important issues in the state. Results indicate that welfare and election integrity reforms are popular among Republicans, Democrats, and Independents.
Voters support welfare integrity programs
Colorado voters support reforms that would ensure those receiving welfare benefits such as unemployment are truly eligible. A majority of all likely voters support requiring unemployment applications to be checked against existing data to help ensure those who are receiving benefits are truly eligible (74%), including nearly two-thirds of likely Democrat voters (64%).
Majorities of voters in Colorado also support requiring those receiving unemployment benefits to perform at least one work search activity each business day (65%) and requiring food stamp recipients to report changes in their financial status that could affect their eligibility within 10 days (64%).
Election integrity reforms are also popular
There is also marked support for reforms that would secure Colorado elections. Most voters in Colorado agree that an individual should have to be a U.S. citizen to vote (86%). A strong majority—including 65 percent of Democrats and 76 percent of Independents—support requiring a bipartisan team of one member from each political party to escort ballots whenever they are transported (75%).
Further, likely voters in Colorado strongly oppose allowing government offices that oversee elections to accept funding from private individuals and special interest groups. Interestingly, more Democrats (69%) and Independents (73%) oppose this practice than Republicans (62%).
